Personally, at my former institution, I often chose brachial ports for safety reasons, but there were certainly times when the vessel diameter was too small or the meander was stronger than expected, making insertion difficult.
I was under the impression that the upper arm was more common in chemo patients who gradually lose weight, lose subcutaneous fat, and have more noticeable port exposure, etc.
